St. Maarten AIDS Foundation

The Mission of the St. Maarten AIDS Foundation is as follows: To promote the awareness among the general population about the existence of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome ( AIDS ) AND SEXUALLY Transmitted Diseases (STD’s) To prevent the Human Immune Deficiency Virus (HIV) infection in the community To prevent and reduce possible negative, social, economic and personal consequences of the AIDS EPIDEMIC To assist where possible with care and support persons living with HIV and AIDS The St. Maarten AIDS Foundation conducts Empowerment Workshops to students in high school. These are the Girl Power and Real Talk workshops. These workshops are comprehensive programs that equip teens with knowledge and the tools to take a long-term view with respect to their life goals; to see the importance of avoiding situations that could negatively affect their future. The Booster Project is a follow-up to those workshops, to reinforce what was taught and discussed in Girl Power and Real Talk in the previous year. The Booster Project is a way to reinforce these valuable lessons by presenting additional material on safe sex, condom use, information on STI’S, as well as the importance of abstaining from sex and valuing oneself.
